Javier Nero - Trombonist and Composer
About Javier Nero:
Dr. Javier Nero is a jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose musicianship has received significant recognition. Currently based in Baltimore, MD, Javier is busy as both a bandleader and sideman in the greater DMV area. Javier relocated to the area in march of 2021 from New York City after winning the lead trombone position in the US Army Band’s premier musical unit: ”The Pershing’s Own”. Javier performs as part of the popular music element with the US Army Blues, a big band comprised of some of the nations most talented musicians. Dr. Nero has also recently joined the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University as the jazz trombone and arranging and harmony teacher. There he works alongside an illustrious faculty under the direction of trumpeter Sean Jones. Dr. Nero also worked alongside Jones and other faculty as an arranger and ensemble coach as part of Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra jazz ensemble. Javier also recently performed on board the Jazz Cruise in 2023 alongside artists such as John Clayton, Christian McBride, Randy Brecker, Kurt Elling, and many more. Dr. Nero released his sophomore album for full jazz orchestra this summer 2023, entitled “Kemet”. The album features 9 original compositions and 2 arrangements for full big band, featuring special guests Randy Brecker, Sean Jones, Christie Dashiell, Warren Wolf, and Tim Green to name a few.Javier also continues to perform and record regularly with Grammy-Award winning ensembles based in New York City including the Maria Schneider Orchestra, the 8-bit Big Band, Steven Feifke Big Band, Remy Le Boeuf’s Assembly of Shadows, The Robert Edwards Big Band, Manuel Valera Jazz Orchestra, Lucas Pino’s No-Net Nonet, and many others. Javier also leads two of his own ensembles “The Javier Nero Septet” and “The Javier Nero Jazz Orchestra. Both ensembles perform all original compositions and arrangements.Nero currently holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School, a Master of Music from University of Miami in Studio/Jazz Writing, and graduated in May, 2017 with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a cognate (minor) in classical trombone performance at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
